Mr. Bakht Yar Zafar
Mr. Bakht Yar Zafar, a dedicated professional in the field of Library and Information Science, hails from the historic city of Pakpattan, renowned for being the home of the revered Sufi saint, Hazrat Baba Farid Ganj Shakar. Born on December 30, 1983, in the village of Chak No. 7 KB, 25 kilometers from Pakpattan, he began his early education at Government Primary School in his village. In 1988, after a devastating flood, his family migrated to Pakpattan city where he continued his studies.
He completed his secondary education in 1998 from Government High School Pakpattan and earned his F.A. degree from Government Degree College Pakpattan in 2000. Shortly after, he ventured into the private sector in Lahore, gaining diverse work experience before joining the Pakistan Army in 2002. He served the nation for four years, leaving in 2006, and then resumed his educational pursuits. He completed his Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree from Allama Iqbal Open University in 2007.
In 2007, Mr. Zafar joined the National Library of Pakistan as a Data Entry Operator, marking the beginning of his career in the library field. Recognizing his passion for information sciences, he pursued a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science, graduating from the University of Sargodha in 2010. Following this, he joined UNESCO/ISESCO as an Assistant Librarian in Islamabad, and his career steadily progressed. In 2012, he was appointed as Library Project Manager at the National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW), further honing his expertise in library management.
In 2014, Mr. Zafar took on the role of Librarian at the Pakistan Public Works Department (Pak-PWD) in Islamabad, where he played a vital role in organizing and managing information resources. His commitment to the field led him to join the Higher Education Department of Punjab in 2015, where he continues to serve as a Lecturer in Library and Information Science, nurturing the next generation of library professionals.
Apart from his professional accomplishments, Mr. Zafar is a life member of the Pakistan Library Association and the founder of Pakistan’s largest Library Science network, a platform designed to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing among library professionals across the country.
With his extensive experience and unwavering dedication to advancing the library profession in Pakistan, Mr. Bakht Yar Zafar stands as a respected figure in the field, continually striving to promote the significance of libraries and information science in education and beyond.
