The first librarian of the Imperial Library of India (now the National Library of India) in Kolkata was Dr. Nathaniel Wallich. Dr. Wallich was a Danish botanist who was appointed as the first librarian of the library when it was founded in 1891. He served in this position until his retirement in 1892. During his tenure as librarian, he played a key role in establishing the library’s collection and organization.
